A keeper of the secrets of Italian knitwear like United Colors of Benetton cannot forego the excellence of wool. In Venice, wool production dates back to the sixteenth century, while since the first half of the nineteenth century the main workers, weavers and wool traders in Italy moved right into the Treviso area - where Benetton was also born and flourished.
Today, that tradition is renewed daily in our factories. In fact, 94% of the wool (single-fiber) garments in our collections are made from 100% virgin wool, without added regenerated fibers or other materials. This means that, once released into the environment, the garments are completely biodegradable. The quality of wool Benetton is Woolmark certified, the global authority in the field: its brand reassures consumers that our products are made with Italian yarns in 100% extra-fine Merino wool, and have no defects.Furthermore, as evidence of our role as ambassadors of Italian knitwear in the world, in 2017 Benetton was the first European company in the fashion sector to join the IWTO (International Wool Textile Organization), the international wool organization.
This allows us to stay up-to-date on the latest industry news and to help make the wool supply chain increasingly sustainable and transparent, influencing current issues such as recycling, yarn quality, traceability and animal protection.
